The introductory part of the exhibition makes the visitor acquainted with basic data on the Baltic ethnicum, on its historical development and its language. In the past the Balts inhabited a much larger territory than today (nowadays, only Lithuanians and Latvians are considered to be Balts). Rich archaeological finds from the 6th to the 13th centuries document the diversity of the population. The very rich tradition of jewel production is also worth mentioning. Unlike the Central European jewellery it is very sumptuous and its artistic design is very different.
