Inscription steles
Fragment of a sandstone slab with an inscription from the 10th – 11th century. So called “Inscription steles” were found at the southern wall of the church on the acropolis of the hill-fort in Libice nad Cidlinou. Unfortunately, their fragmentary condition does not allow the reconstitution of the original inscriptions. Based on circumstances of their finding one can suppose that they either belonged to graves of important persons or played the role of memorial inscriptions reminding of an exceptional event or person. The inscription steles from Libice are the oldest epigraphic monuments discovered on our territory.
