Bronze belt end

(10th – 11th century)

The ferrule on the end of a leather belt comes from the birthplace of St. Adalbert in the hill-fort Libice nad Cidlinou. However, it originates from eastern Baltics or even from the Novgorod region. This tiny object bears evidence of frequent contacts with far away regions in Early Middle Ages that may represent complicated political and cultural relations connected with the fate of the Slavník dynasty and its role in the beginnings of the Bohemian state.
